(8)Foursquare Gospel Church

The Foursquare Gospel Church, a Pentecostal type of denomination, came about during an intense revival
in the city of Oakland, Calif., in July 1922, when
Mrs. Aimee McPherson preached to a large croud.

She died in 1944 at the age of 54, and her son, Rolf Kennedy McPherson became the head of The Foursquare Church.
He served as the president and chairman of the board
of directors for 44 years, retiring in 1988.

Following Rolf McPherson’s retirement, John R. Holland became
the third head of The Foursquare Church. Since that time
the mantle of the presidency has passed to Paul Risser
(1998-2004) and Jack Hayford (2004-2009).

Glenn Burris Jr., was elected president by the convention
voting body in June 2010, and is now serving
his first term as president. As you can see this man
made church is headed by men and is not the Lord’s one church.

They believe in the false doctrines of "faith only" salvation
and the baptism of the Holy Spirit when people speak in tongues
not known to them.

salvation Repentance and Acceptance We believe that,
when people repent for their sins and accept Christ,
they are justifiedthrough Jesus’ sacrificial death on the cross.

To repent means to be sorry for sins, but italso means to turn away from a sinful lifestyle. Accepting Christ means believing in Himas the only Savior. To be justified means being declared “not guilty” in regard to sin(Romans 10:9-10; 1 John 1:9).

Water BaptismWe believe that people who have been born again should be baptized in the name ofthe Father, Son and Holy Spirit.Baptism with the Holy SpiritWe believe that those
who experience Holy Spirit baptism today will experience
it in thesame manner that believers experienced it
in the early church; in other words, webelieve that
they will speak in tongues languages that are not
known to them (Acts 1:5, 8; 2:4).
